FAQ
How to proceed when changing the owner or microchip code of a registered animal or object?
How can the owner or microchip code of an animal or object registered in the Central Register be changed?
Changing the owner or microchip code is not allowed in the register. However, in this case, a new registration can be made. An exception is a change in the owner’s surname (for example, due to marriage).
Do we have to register our dog in the Central Register?
We have a dog from "third-hand," he is microchipped and registered to a veterinarian. We registered the dog at the local (municipal) office, provided the chip number, and filled in a form. Do we still have to register the dog in the Central Register?
Registering a dog at the local (municipal) office and filling out the registration form is usually governed by a municipal ordinance, which imposes this obligation. You do not have to register in the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic. However, if your dog gets lost, it will usually end up in an animal shelter. The fact that the dog is microchipped does not in itself mean anything; the microchip code contains no information about the owner. In the shelter, they will read the chip code and look up on www.identifikace.cz who the dog belongs to. If the dog is not registered in the Central Register of Animals and Objects, the shelter will not be able to find the owner’s details on our website. If the dog is registered to a veterinarian, the shelter may call the veterinarian, but there is no guarantee they will reach them or that the veterinarian will know who the owner is. There is also the question of whether the veterinarian will be willing to provide such information. The solution is simple = register the dog yourself. All necessary resources are available on our website.
How to proceed when updating information in the Central Register?
How can we change the data about a registered dog (cat, bicycle, object, etc.)?
First, verify that your record is indeed registered in the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic. You can check this by entering the microchip number into the search form on the page for search. Changes to the data can be made in writing or by email. In your change request, include the microchip number, your full name, and the password you provided on the registration form. If you registered electronically, you can make changes yourself after logging into your account. Changes in the register are free of charge. However, a change of owner or microchip code is not considered a “change” but rather a new registration.
How to remove a record from the Central Register?
How can a microchip (dog, cat, bicycle, object, etc.) be deregistered?
First, verify that your record is indeed registered in the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic. You can check this by entering the microchip number into the search form on the page for search. Removal from the register can be requested in writing or by email. In your request, include the microchip number, your full name, and the password you provided on the registration form. We will inform you once the record is removed. If you registered electronically, you can remove the record yourself after logging into your account. Removal from the register is free of charge.
Why is some microchip registered to a veterinarian?
Some time ago, we had our dogs microchipped. We returned from the vet with microchipped dogs and a card with your website address. We considered the matter settled. Now we have found a form on the website that must be filled in to register the dog. On your card, the term "first recipient" is mentioned. This "recipient" is the veterinarian, not the dog owner!
Marking an animal or object with a microchip and then registering that microchip definitively links the marked animal or object to its owner. The microchip code itself contains no information about the owner. However, if the owner registers the microchip in their own name in the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic, then the owner can be found via our website by entering the microchip code. The "first recipient" is the person who buys the microchips from the distributor, typically a veterinarian. For example, the company MariaVet, s.r.o. registers all chips it sells to the first recipient. If the owner does not register the dog themselves and the dog gets lost, there is at least a chance that the owner can be traced via the veterinarian who implanted the chip. However, we recommend the owner’s own registration — this option is available on our website.
National Register and the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic
What is the relationship between the National Register of Animal Owners and the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic?
The relationship between the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic and the National Register of Animal Owners is described in detail on this page.
How many dogs and cats are there in the Czech Republic, and how many animals in specific cities...
Can you tell me the total number of dogs and cats in the Czech Republic? I am writing a thesis and need to know how many dogs are in the Czech Republic.
The Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic contains animals or objects marked with a microchip and registered at the request of the owner. The Central Register is used to look up the owner’s contact details when a lost animal is found. This registration is not mandatory. Consequently, not every microchip is registered in the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic. Animals without microchips are also not recorded in the Central Register. Therefore, we cannot answer questions about the total number of dogs (or other animals) in the Czech Republic or the total number of microchipped dogs, etc. The data we have is not suitable as a basis for any work requiring accurate counts of animals in the Czech Republic, in districts, or in specific cities.
Making a paper-form registration accessible via the Central Register of Animals and Objects of the Czech Republic
We would like the registration we made using a paper form to be made accessible so that we can keep it updated ourselves. Is this possible? Is there a fee?
You can make your registration accessible by following this procedure. On the registration page, create an account (instructions for creating an account are described in detail on the page). After creating the account, wait for the activation email and activate your account. Then send us an email with your username, the microchip code, your full name, and the password you used when registering via the paper form. We will then make your record accessible. You will then be able to access the data after logging into your account. Making the data accessible is free of charge. If the microchip was registered to the first owner, the registered data cannot be made accessible electronically. If you wish to maintain your registration in this case, register it yourself electronically. In this case, you will need to pay the standard registration fee — see the price list.
